Basic Prayers 3

Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, all things are passing away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices.

Prayer to Our Guardian Angel

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day (or night) be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

O God, you raised up St. John the Baptist to prepare a perfect people for Christ. Fill Your people with the joy of possessing His grace, and direct the minds of all faithful in the way of peace and salvation.

Grant that St. John was martyred for truth and justice, so we may energetically profess our Faith in You, and lead others to the Way, the Truth, and Eternal Life.

St. Kateri Tekakwitha, favored child and Lily of the Mohawks, I come to seek your intercession in my present need: (mention it). I admire the virtues which adorned your soul: love of God and neighbor, humility, obedience, patience, purity and the spirit of sacrifice. Help me to imitate your example in my state of life. Through the goodness and mercy of God, Who has blessed you with so many graces which led you to the true faith and to a high degree of holiness, pray to God for me and help me.

Obtain for me a very fervent devotion to the Holy Eucharist so that I may love Holy Mass as you did and receive Holy Communion as often as I can. Teach me also to be devoted to my crucified Savior as you were, that I may cheerfully bear my daily crosses for love of Him Who suffered so much for love of me. Most of all, I beg you to pray for me that I may avoid sin, lead a holy life and save my soul.

Lord Jesus Christ, who, being made subject to Mary and Joseph, did consecrate domestic life by Your ineffable virtues; grant that we, with the assistance of both, may be taught by the example of Your holy Family and may attain to its everlasting fellowship. Who lives and reigns, world without end.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Breathe into me Holy Spirit, that all my thoughts may be holy. Move in me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart, Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy. Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.

Hail, O Queen of Heaven enthroned! Hail, by angels mistress owned, Root of Jesse! Gate of morn! Whence the world’s true light was born: Glorious Virgin, joy to thee, Loveliest whom in heaven they see. Fairest thou where all are fair! Plead with Christ our sins to spare.

Sacred Heart of Jesus

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in your wounds I find my consolation, in your pierced heart I find a companion for my sorrows. O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in you heart’s joy I find contentment, in your purity I find my hope. O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in the radiant light streaming from your heart my blindness disappears; in your fiery love I am ablaze with awe. O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in your humiliation I can bear scorn from others, in your longings I am fulfilled. O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in the blood and water which gushed forth from your lanced heart I am reborn in you; you refresh my very being.

Forever beating in the love of the Holy Trinity is found your human heart, authoring life and radiating eternal affection. Would that I could find God’s treasure, it would be found in a humble and contrite heart. You by your divinity know all things divine and by your humanity feel all things human. By the mystery of your Sacred Heart, you have united man to yourself forever. Hold back nothing from me that could draw me more completely into the deepest recesses of your heart. Whether peace or distress, bliss or grief, I accept all as an invitation to know you and love you more profoundly. O Lord, perfect me in your love, confirm me in your grace and take delight in the richness of my surrender. Where your treasure lies there you will find my heart. Amen.
